A Brief History

The birth of YKK Philippines is a tale, legends are made of. It involves two generation of two families:
one from Japan, and the other from the Philippines, whose futures were destined to intertwine, as foreshadowed by events in their individual lives.

In 1934, a young entrepreneur, Tadao Yoshida founded Yoshida Kogyo K.K., a pioneer zipper manufacturing company in Japan.

Two years later, a young man named Jose S. Laurel III, future lawyer, ambassador and statesman, entered the rolls of the elite Japanese Imperial Military Academy as a cadet. He would be the the first and only Filipino to earn distinction of graduating from that venerable institution. In 1970 their sons, who opted to pursue higher education in the United Stated, met as classmates in the Kellogg School of management at Northwestern University.  Friendship and  mutual respect developed in the halls of the academe that eventually became the nurturing elements for the start of a business partnership.

The joint venture was incorporated in October 1977. Its founder himself, Mr. Tadao Yoshida, represented the Japanese principal, Yoshida Kogyo K.K.; while Ambassador Jose S. Laurel III, who stood as Chairman and President of the new company, led the Philippines group.
